Man follows Suitland woman off bus, beats and rapes her, Prince George's County police say

A man has been taken into custody after detectives said he followed a woman from a Metro bus, severely beat her and then raped her inside her Suitland home on Tuesday.

Authorities said the woman got off a Metro bus at the Suitland Metro Station and was followed to her apartment in the 3000 block of Parkway Terrace Drive at about 2 p.m.

Investigators said the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Milton Wright of Temple Hills, knocked on the woman's door and forced his way into her apartment.

Court documents stated Wright hit the woman several times in the face, grabbed her by the neck and forced her onto a bed where he raped her.

Wright then ran from the scene, according to officials. Authorities said they were alerted to the rape shortly after it happened and Wright was arrested on Wednesday.

"She called us at about 2:40 in the afternoon, thankfully soon after the event happened and we were able to get the investigation going right away, which is why we were able to track down the suspect in just over 24 hours, identify him and put him in custody," Lt. David Coleman with the Prince George's County Police Department detailed.

The victim was rushed to the hospital and treated for multiple injuries, according to court documents.

Detectives said video obtained from Metro showed both Wright and the victim onboard the bus at the same time. Investigators said they also reviewed video from the bus station and on private surveillance systems in the area.

The victim was able to positively identify the suspect to police, according to officials.

Wright has been charged with first and second-degree rape, home invasion, assault and other charges, according to police. He was in custody in the District and awaiting extradition to Prince George's County.

"This behavior is not tolerated," Coleman added. "Our detectives stayed up the whole time and didn't rest until they were able to track this guy down and get him off our streets because he is obviously 100 percent not welcomed in our community."

Detectives said they were attempting to determine if Wright was connected to any other recent crimes in the greater D.C. area. Anyone with information that could aid detectives in their investigation was urged to call the CID/Sexual Assault Unit at (301) 772-4908.
