Man attempts to abduct woman walking with son in Virginia park

Police are searching for a suspect they say tried to abduct a woman from a park in Manassas.

The attempted abduction happened around noon Monday along Stonewall Road in Stonewall Park.

The victim, a 35-year-old woman from Manassas, told officers that she was walking with her son when a man approached and attempted to grab her. The woman said the man ran into a wooded area after she yelled at him.

The victim and her son escaped unharmed.

"From the report that I read, I don't think there was any threat to the child necessarily," said Manassas City Police spokesperson Adrienne Helms. "It sounds like he was trying to grab her. He was basically, 'Come with me,' and before he could even grab her fully, she had him scared off."

Police say the suspect is described as a Hispanic man, approximately 30 years old, with short dark hair and dark eyes. Investigators say he has a medium build, dark complexion and was wearing a white tank top with light blue jeans.
