Man accused of raping 12-year-old girl in Wheaton, police say

A Prince George's County man is accused of raping a 12-year-old girl in Wheaton last week.

Police say on the afternoon of May 23, the 12-year-old was walking home from school during a thunderstorm when 59-year-old James Allen Booker, of Upper Marlboro, pulled alongside her in his car and asked if she needed a ride home.

After the girl accepted Booker's offer, police say she got into his car and gave him her home address.

Police say Booker drove the girl home and parked in front of the residence. That's when police say Booker sexually assaulted the girl as they sat inside the car.

After the assault, police say Booker allowed the girl to exit his vehicle and once she got inside her home she immediately told a parent about what happened. The parent then contacted the police.

On Tuesday, Booker was arrested at his job in Wheaton and charged with one count of second-degree rape and one count of third-degree sex offense.

Bond information is not yet available.
