Local Make-A-Wish alum survived cancer, and now he's paying it forward

Throughout the month of November, we're partnering with Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic to introduce you to some very special young people. The Season of Wishes campaign tells you those stories, but also shows you how easy it is for you to help make wishes come true.

One of those young lives impacted by Make-A-Wish is Ashwani Jain, and he's got quite a story to tell. Ashwani is a lymphoma survivor, having been diagnosed at the age of 13. He went through four rounds of chemotherapy and though it wasn't easy, he is now cancer-free.

Ashwani is also a Make-A-Wish "alum." His wish--to meet his favorite actor, Denzel Washington-- was granted back in 2005. He says that wish made him forget about everything else, and be positive. As Ashwani says, if he could meet Denzel Washington, he thought, he could do anything.

Since then, Ashwani has been making an impact for others who now need wishes. Ashwani now works at the White House, and as an active volunteer for Make-A-Wish Mid-Atlantic, he has been the wish-granting volunteer to at least five other wish recipients. He says without Make-A-Wish, he would not be the person he is today.
