"24" actor Kiefer Sutherland is accused of attacking a ride-share driver in Hollywood.

Actor Kiefer Sutherland was arrested in Los Angeles over an alleged incident with a ride-share driver.

What we know:

The Los Angeles Police Department responded to a call of an assault involving the said ride-share driver near Sunset Boulevard and Fairfax Avenue in Hollywood on Monday, January 12 around 12:15 a.m.

Police arrested Sutherland, best known for his work on the drama "24" and in films including "Flatliners" and "Stand By Me," after being told he allegedly entered the vehicle and assaulted the driver while also making criminal threats.

Sutherland was arrested on suspicion of making criminal threats, which can be charged as a felony or misdemeanor, according to the LAPD.

The driver did not need to be taken to the hospital, according to authorities.

According to county jail records, Sutherland's bail was set at $50,000. He posted bond and was released on bail Monday morning.

What we don't know:

Officials did not say what prompted the actor to allegedly behave the way he did.

The backstory:

Sutherland, son of the late actor Donald Sutherland, won Emmy and Golden Globe awards for his portrayal of Jack Bauer in the Fox series "24," which ran for about a decade. 

His other film credits include "The Lost Boys," "Young Guns," "A Few Good Men" and "A Time to Kill."

What's next:

Los Angeles Superior Court records Wednesday show that Sutherland is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 2.

The incident remains under investigation.
