January most popular time for divorce

Now that the holidays are over, make way for a different type of season, divorce season.

Statistically, this is the time of year when most marriages come to an end.

The number of filings is one-third more than normal.

The trend lasts through March.

Some of the reasons lawyers hear are families not wanting to break up during the holidays, people wanting to take trips they were planning on, couples wanting to open their gifts, and less court date availability during the last few months of the year because of the holidays.

According to the CDC, the United States sees an average of 876,000 divorces every year.

But, if you ask divorce attorneys, on no day do more people file for divorce, than on the first Monday of the year.
