Investigators recover body of missing 12-year-old girl from Sandy Point State Park waters
SANDY POINT, Md. - Officials say they have recovered the body of a missing 12-year-old girl at Sandy Point State Park after searching for almost five hours.
The 12-year-old girl, who was from Baltimore, according to officials, was last seen struggling in the water near one of the swim beaches at the park at around 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Maryland Natural Resources Police say she had reportedly gone under the water and did not resurface.
Divers reportedly had been employing side-scan sonar to better develop an image of large areas of the seafloor in their search/
The U.S. Coast Guard says the Maryland-National Capital Region command center launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Station Annapolis to assist in the search.
Anne Arundel County Fire, Annapolis Fire, Coast Guard and Natural Resources Police were all involved in the search.
