Historic Maryland lighthouse on Chesapeake Bay for sale
CHESAPEAKE BAY, Md. - A 19th century lighthouse in the Chesapeake Bay could be yours as it is being auctioned online to the public.
The Craighill Channel Lower Range Front Light Station located in the water is located about two miles offshore from North Point State Park.
The lighthouse was first lit in 1873 and contains a cast iron lantern room that sits at the top of the structure about 25 feet above the surface of the water as well as a one-and-a-half story keepers quarter with a perimeter gallery deck.
The listing for the lighthouse says only the structure is for sale, but the land it sits on beneath the water will remain under the ownership of the government.
"The buyer will be obligated to acquire and maintain a right of occupancy accordingly," the listing said.
As of Tuesday, the highest current bid for the lighthouse is at $15,000. The auction will end on Sept. 15.
