Hazmat team investigate chemical odor at Rockville home
ROCKVILLE, Md. - A Hazmat team is investigating an unknown chemical odor coming from a single-family home in Rockville.
Fire officials said Rockville City Police were responding to a welfare check call at a home in the 1900 block of Valley Stream Drive at around 6 p.m. Tuesday. When officers entered the house, they noticed a chemical odor and contacted Montgomery County Fire and Rescue.
Montgomery County Fire and Rescue spokesperson Pete Piringer said Hazmat crews located insecticides and other household items, but found no explosives or other hazardous materials.
Neighbors were notified by authorities and had been asked to shelter in place. There was no immediate threat to the surrounding homes.
No injuries have been reported.
Neighbors said the house has been empty for a few months and squatters have been inside the home recently.
