Gunshots fired at home in Arlington, police say
WASHINGTON - Arlington police are investigating after a bullet was fired overnight into a home with a family inside.
Around 12:30 a.m. Monday, police said a man was inside his home on the 2200 block of Garfield Street when he woke up to a loud noise. The man asked FOX 5 to not share his name, but he said he also woke up to the sound of his home alarm.
"It sounded like a really loud bang and that clearly is because of the impact on the side of the house — specifically on the window — breaking of the glass," he said. "I’m familiar with what gunshots sound like but I was asleep."
The man added that his neighbor also recalled hearing two gunshots.
"Everybody is OK, but just a little bit nervous, a little bit unsettled. But I will say as soon as we identified what happened, talked to another neighbor who was concerned and called 911…the Arlington police were here within seconds," he said. "They dispatched half a dozen units, closed off the area. Immediately started looking at evidence they could and discovered two bullet casings as well as one other slug that wasn’t in the window."
Arlington police confirmed Monday, evidence recovered confirms shots had been fired in the area. Police also found a car with property damage.
"I’ve been in the military for about three decades. I have definitely been around gunshots and things that explode, so that’s not unfamiliar. But it is very unfamiliar to have it specifically impact your house," the man said. "It’s not the best way to move into a house. We are receiving our household goods today. Just hours after this occurred very early in the morning, so we are rattled but we have been assured this isn’t normal. You know, this level of threat. So we are just going to try to make the best of it. Hope it was a true anomaly and doesn’t happen again."
At this time, there is no suspect description. The investigation is ongoing.
