A 2-year-old girl is in serious condition after she was found unresponsive in a hot car Wednesday afternoon.

Grand Prairie police say a 911 came in around 2:50 p.m. about a child left in a hot car at a shopping center parking lot.

When paramedics arrived, the 2-year-old was found unresponsive.

The Grand Prairie fire chief says when paramedics arrived, the girl had no pulse, no heartbeat and was not breathing. However, he says a former athletic trainer who happened to be there was able to perform CPR on her.

The fire chief says on the way to the hospital, paramedics were able to get a pulse back from the 2-year-old. He says she had a good neurological response and was responding to their voice.

Police say a relative, believed to be the girl's grandmother, was babysitting the 2-year-old when she fell asleep in the backseat. She told police she visited a couple of stores in the shopping center when she realized 30 minutes later that she forgot the child in the backseat and called 911.

The 2-year-old is being treated at Cooks Children's Hospital in Fort Worth and is in serious condition.

Grand Prairie police say the case appears to be accidental and are not filing charges at this time.
