GoFundMe drive helps family who lost 5-month-old boy killed when struck by vehicle in Leesburg

A GoFundMe page has been set up to help a family who lost their 5-month-old son who was killed when he was struck by a vehicle in Leesburg.

The accident happened around 8:15 a.m. Wednesday near the intersection of Riverside Parkway and Kipheart Drive. The boy, identified on the GoFundMe page as 5-month-old Tristan, was being pushed in his stroller when he and his mother were struck by a turning SUV.

Both were taken to a nearby hospital where Tristan later died. The mother, identified on the GoFundMe page as Mindy, is still hospitalized at this time.

Mother and son had just dropped off an older sibling at a nearby school when the accident happened.

Over $65,000 in funds for the family had been raised by Friday afternoon. The website's goal was to reach $100,000.

"They are completely shocked, heartbroken, and have a long road ahead of them," the website read. "Please, if you can, donate anything you can to help them with medical expenses as well as funeral costs. No parent should ever have to bury their child." The message ended by asking for prayers for the family.

The vehicle that struck them remained on the scene. Police have not determined a cause for the accident.
