'Ghetto Classroom Awards' given to special education students upset parents, prompt investigation

Officials are investigating after teachers at a Texas school reportedly handed out ‘Ghetto Classroom Awards' to students in a special education class.

The end of the year awards highlighted certain behaviors exhibited by students over the course of the school year.

For example, one student brought home ‘The HUH? Award,' which was given to him for saying ‘huh?' a lot during class.

Twitter user Jerrika Dabbs posted a photo of the award from the Sulphur Springs Middle School class showing what appear to be signatures from teachers and the principal.

The principal says she did not sign the certificates and was unaware of the awards.

An investigation is continuing.
