George Washington University surprises DC high school student with full scholarships

The surprise of a lifetime came for ten local high school students Thursday when one of the top universities in the region awarded them with full scholarships.

The unsuspecting D.C. high schoolers were presented with hand-delivered acceptance letters to George Washington University by the school's president, Steven Knapp.

The university's GW-Stephen Joel Trachtenberg Scholarship program has been in place for twenty-five years and has committed more than $24 million to the program.

The full-ride, four year scholarships cover tuition, room, board, books and fees. The program has awarded scholarships to more than 160 students since it began in 1989.
