Free cab rides available in Washington area this 4th of July

(AP) -- Washington officials are offering free cab rides this Fourth of July to discourage people from getting behind the wheel after drinking.

Between 10 p.m. Monday and 4 a.m. Tuesday, people who are 21 and older can call 800-200-8294 to request a free ride. The "SoberRide" Program is being provided by the Washington Regional Alcohol Program.

Officials say rides will be offered in Washington and several cities and counties in Virginia and Maryland. The SoberRide operator will relay the person's request to participating cab companies.
