Frederick County firefighter killed when tractor overturns, crashes down ravine in Montgomery County

Authorities say a firefighter is dead after being pinned by an overturned tractor at the bottom of a ravine in Montgomery County.

Officials say they responded to W. Harris Road and Mount Ephraim Road in the Dickerson area Tuesday morning after being notified that 60-year-old Drue Jones, a firefighter with Frederick County Fire and Rescue Services, did not report to work.

When they arrived they searched the area and found Jones badly injured and pinned beneath a tractor at the bottom of a steep ravine in a remote area. Officials say they began rescue operations but Jones died from his injuries at the scene.

Jones was assigned to the Vigilant Hose Company in Emmitsburg. Frederick County Fire and Rescue Services tweeted that they were "deeply saddened" by the death of Jones.

The investigation is still continuing at this time.
