FOX Beat: Kevin McCarthy's movie reviews of Ghostbusters, The Infiltrator, and Captain Fantastic

If you're movie-bound this weekend, there are a few new films to perhaps place on your agenda-- and of course, Kevin McCarthy has seen them all! In this video, he gives you his reviews Ghostbusters, The Infiltrator, and Captain Fantastic.

And if that's not enough, here's what Kevin thought of the new Ghostbusters in his official review, originally posted on his Facebook page:

If there was video footage of me when I first saw the 1984 GHOSTBUSTERS when I was a kid, I would imagine the huge smile on my face would mimic the smile I had while watching the 2016 reboot. I felt like a kid again.

The new GHOSTBUSTERS is INCREDIBLY FUN. Kate McKinnon steals the entire flick. Hemsworth comes in a close second. The 3D conversion is awesome (Really? Yes!). While the film sometimes dips a bit too much in to the original, Feig does a solid job of making a film that mostly stands on its own. The positives heavily outweigh the negatives.

Let me start by saying I generally don't like 3D conversions. In fact, I'm very much against them. I always think it's a cheap way of charging people more money for tickets. In the case of Paul Feig's GHOSTBUSTERS, they utilize the 3D digital effects in an extremely effective way. There were black bars at the top and bottom of the screen. The 3D effects would reach out OVER the black bars which makes it so much more immersive.

Anytime the GHOSTBUSTERS are firing their proton packs, the streams go OUT AND OVER the black bars. The same happens when characters are slimed. Sure, that could be a gimmick but with the tone of the film, it really works in creating a better experience. A lot of these 3D effects are done digitally which is easier to manipulate in a 3D conversion. Shooting the film in 2D doesn't have an effect on these effects.

Kate McKinnon IS FANTASTIC. She deserves her own spinoff flick. She completely embraces the geeky quality of the character in such an endearing way. Her chemistry with the cast is incredible. I just loved watching her explain the gadgets. McCarthy, Jones and Wiig are all great as well. The four work so well together.

The flick stands on its own and did not need it's cameos. I won't give away what they are but I felt the cameos reminded us that we were watching a reboot of the franchise. Plus, the cameo actors didn't give much effort to their cameos. The film has a ton of call backs to the original and some of these things feel very forced. Those were some of my issues with the film. I won't give away what those are but there were times where the film kind of breaks it's own rules.

Hemsworth IS HILARIOUS. What a great role and he's just so much fun to watch on screen. I loved his chemistry with the cast and he definitely gets some of the biggest laughs in the film.

These thoughts are coming from a person who GREW UP on the original Ivan Reitman flicks. The 1984 GHOSTBUSTERS had a huge impact on my life. I had a proton pack and that Ray Parker Jr. theme was a huge soundtrack to my life. I just re-watched it this past weekend and it still holds up. I always loved that the Stay Puft Marshmallow fall out was shaving cream. Is this new film better than the original? If I have to answer, I would say that I favor the original. That was a huge part of my childhood. While I don't think this new film will have the classic staying power of the original, I do think it will open doors for more female-led films. It's fantastic fun and I would love to see a sequel with this cast and director.

I can't wait to see it again. As of this moment, I'm giving the film a 4/5.
