Former Montgomery County teacher arrested for taking pictures of girls during class

MONTGOMERY COUNTY, Md. - A former Bethesda-Chevy Chase High School teacher was arrested with three counts of sexual abuse of a minor.

Todd Scriber, 38, of Gaithersburg was arrested for using his cell phone to take pictures of female students without their permission or knowledge, according to a letter the school's principal sent out to parents Wednesday.

The three females involved were all Scriber's students. The students were fully-clothed in the photographs, though some of the pictures "emphasized various areas of the female anatomy," according to the police department.

Principal Donna Redmond Jones said Montgomery County Public Schools learned of the allegations in October and immediately put him on leave. He is no longer an employee of Montgomery County Public Schools.

The school learned of the allegations after a 14-year-old female reported to police that while she was finishing an exam in his classroom after school, she approached his desk to ask a question about the exam and noticed that he appeared to be holding his cell phone and taking photographs underneath her skirt. According to police, the student jumped back to create distance between the two of them, finished her exam, and later told her parents what had occurred.

The student's report launched an investigation.

Just one day after the student reported the incident, a detective spoke to Scriber about it. Scriber agreed to allow the detective to search his phone, according to officials. The detective found pictures of underage females seemingly in Scriber's classroom. The photos were of specific areas of the females' bodies.

When Scriber realized the detective was viewing the photos, he tried to grab the phone away from him. The detective then seized the phone and obtained a search warrant to sift through the phone for evidence, according to officials.

The three female victims were two 17-year-olds and one 16-year-old.

Detectives obtained a warrant for Scriber's arrest, charging him with three counts of child sexual abuse and on Wednesday he turned himself in.
