Father, son shot in Bowie while sitting inside car
BOWIE, Md. - A father and his son were shot while sitting inside their vehicle Tuesday afternoon in Bowie, Maryland, according to officials.
Police say a gunman walked up to the SUV, opened fire and then ran off. The incident occurred at Church Road and Urbana Lane in Bowie just after 2:00 p.m.
When police arrived to the scene they found the two victims shot into of their dodge SUV. According to police, the son was behind the wheel of the vehicle, and the father was sitting in the back seat. The father was wounded at least twice in the leg and the son had a graze wound through the arm.
When police pulled the two men out of the SUV they found that the father was sitting on top of a hand gun, and they also found what appeared to be a bag of marijuana inside of the car.
The father and son were taken to a nearby hospital where they were treated for what appear to be non-life threatening injuries. Officials are continuing to search for the gunman involved in the shooting.
"The initial lookout was given for a dark complexioned Hispanic male, with blue jeans and curly hair. We set up the perimeter to not locate the subject at this time. So this is where we stand at the moment. He fled on foot, "said Chief John Nesky, Bowie Police Department.
Out of an abundance of caution, The Goddard School on Annapolis Road was previously put on lockdown, but it has since been lifted.
