Father, son charged with attacking man accused of sexually assaulting 4-year-old girl

Police in Montgomery County say a father and son attacked a man with kitchen knives and a machete after he was alleged of sexually assaulting a 4-year-old girl.

According to police, they received a call on Feb. 11 about a domestic violence situation in progress at an apartment complex in Montgomery Village. When officers arrived, they found Douglas Rodriguez-Ramirez with a large gash on his head. He told police that after a night of drinking in one of the apartments, Jose Rivas cut him with a knife and his father, Carlos Rivas-Menjivar, attacked him because they believe he sexually assaulted the young girl.

Officers then went to the apartment where the little girl and her mother told them that Rodriguez-Ramirez pulled the girl's pants down and touched her inappropriately during the night.

When Rivas, who is engaged to the child's mother, heard about what allegedly happened, court documents stated he became very angry and grabbed a machete from the living room area of the apartment. Police say his father, Rivas-Menjivar, woke up and tried to attack Rodriguez-Ramirez with a kitchen knife.

There was a third suspect that grabbed a kitchen knife as well, according to the court documents.

Investigators say Rodriguez-Ramirez tried to leave the apartment and was cut in the back of the head by the knife or machete.

Rivas-Menjivar has been charged with attempted second-degree murder, first-degree assault and other serious offenses. His son, Rivas, is also facing the same charges in addition to robbery.

Rodriguez-Ramirez has been charged with third-degree sex offense.

All three men are being held without bond.
