Fairfax day care owner inappropriately touched 2 kids, police say

A man who runs an in-home day care in Fairfax has been arrested after he inappropriately touched two children under the age of 12, according to authorities.

Fairfax County police said 43-year-old Claudio Vargas Lazo was taken into custody on Wednesday after he was accused of inappropriately touching an 11-year-old and 9-year-old.

Investigators said the 11-year-old reported the alleged incident on June 20.Detectives said their investigation determined a 9-year-old was also inappropriately touched by Lazo.

Records show Lazo ran the state licensed, in-home day care located in the 3900 block of Kernstown Court for at least four years. Neighbors told FOX 5 that Lazo ran the day care with his wife, who has not been charged with a crime.

According to records, Lazo was allowed to run the day care for more than a month after he was accused of the inappropriate touching.

FOX 5 reached out to the Virginia Department of Social Services for comment and has not yet heard back.

Lazo was charged with three counts of aggravated sexual battery and was being held without bond.
