Fairfax County Public Schools to vote on lowering age to learn about sexting dangers

FAIRFAX, Va. (FOX 5 DC) - The Fairfax County Public Schools Board is expected to vote Thursday on a policy that would lower the age in which students learn about the dangers of sexting.

Currently, Fairfax County schools teach middle school and high school students about the dangers and consequences of sexting, but under the new proposal that education would begin in the sixth grade.

The new policy would teach grades six, seven and eight about the dangers of sexting but would not discuss child pornography.

Beginning in ninth grade, the curriculum would expand to include discussions about abuse, exploitation and pornography as well.

The school board is expected to vote on the policy change Thursday during its board meeting.
