A classroom assistant with Fairfax County Public Schools was killed in the parking lot of an apartment complex in Alexandria early Friday morning.

Police say 24-year-old Tarreece John Sampson was found shot at around 2:20 a.m. in the back parking lot of the Cityside Huntington Metro Apartment complex in the 6000 block of Richmond Highway.

Fairfax County police spent hours on Friday processing what has been described as a somewhat complex crime scene. Police towed away at least two cars and a motorcycle, but exactly what happened is still unclear. Police were also seen going through what appeared to be an open bag or briefcase with items scattered on the ground.

"There may appear to be evidence or could be that there are other vehicles involved, so at this point, trying to just say that there is just one particular vehicle, there could be other cars here that are parked here as well that could also be part of the crime scene," said an officer for Fairfax County police. "That is the reason why we have several areas here blocked off."

A family member in Goochland, Virginia said investigators with Fairfax County have not told them anything about what happened to Sampson. He worked at Fort Hunt Elementary School in Alexandria and had a side business as a graphic designer.

Police towed away at least two cars and a motorcycle, but exactly what happened is still unclear. If investigators know, they are not saying.
