Fairfax County police identify man who drowned trying to save dog in Lake Braddock

Fairfax County police have released the identity of a Burke man who drowned trying to rescue his dog from Lake Braddock on Saturday.

According to police, 28-year-old Nghia Trinh was walking his dog shortly after 5 p.m. on a path next to the lake when it broke free and ran into the water.

When police responded to the scene in the 9400 block of Goshen Lane, witnesses told them Trinh went into the water to retrieve the dog.

According to witnesses, Trinh went under the water, and then never surfaced.

Police and rescue crews searched the lake for about 40 minutes before finding Trinh's body in the water.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the exact cause of death.

The dog was recovered from the lake.
