Fairfax County approves body camera for cops

FAIRFAX COUNTY, Va. - The Fairfax County Board of Supervisors has approved a plan to outfit police with body cameras - joining a number of police departments throughout the DMV that already employ the cameras.

The Board of Supervisors voted unanimously on Tuesday to issue more than 1,200 cameras across the county over the next three years.

Prince William County, Montgomery County, and D.C. police already outfit their police with body cameras.

Fairfax County police say a pilot program that ran for six months last year showed overwhelming support among residents, and the officers felt the cameras would help settle complaints.

It will cost nearly $11 million over three years to fully implement the program.
