Elderly man abducted in Virginia found safe, suspect taken into custody, officials say

An elderly man who was abducted from his Virginia home by a woman police said was posing as his daughter has been found safe and the suspect is in custody, according to officials.

Officers said 88-year-old John Wimbush was taken from his home in Martinsville, Virginia on Wednesday by a woman identified by investigators as Valerie Vianna Condell.

Police said Condell, who also goes by Valerie Swinson, posed as Wimbush's daughter with the intent to extort money from him. Officers said the two were not related.

Authorities said they believed Condell was traveling with Wimbush to her home in Fort Washington, Maryland. Officials confirmed that Wimbush was found safe and the suspect was taken into custody.
