The Wayne County Prosecutor announced murder charges on Tuesday against a 23-year-old father who they say killed his own four-month-old son.

Wayne County Prosecutor Kym Worthy announced the charges against Deandre Hamilton on Tuesday after his infant son died Sunday night. The infant, Elijah Jones, was found in a home in the 200 block of West Grand Blvd on Sunday evening.

Medics had been called to the home because the boy was not breathing. He was rushed to the hospital but died just minutes after he arrived.

According to the medical examiner, the cause of death is listed as blunt force trauma and authorities say Hamilton murdered his son while the boy's mother was at work.

Neighbors say the couple had been living there less than a year. The night of the incident, they heard the baby crying but no other indication

"I heard the baby earlier that night, but no shouting," said Verdine Bradley, who lives in the apartment complex. "No bangs or any other noise."

"I heard the baby cry," said Ameena. "I (didn't) hear anything else."

Hamilton is charged with Felony murder, and child abuse in the first and second degree. He is being held without bond until his next court date.

"My prayers go out to the family," Bradley said. "I hope that justice is served and whatever is supposed to happen, happens."
