Detainee who escaped ICE on Dulles Toll Road in Loudoun County previously deported 5 times

ASHBURN, Va. - A detainee who escaped the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) on the Dulles Toll Road in Loudoun County, but was later captured, had previously been deported five times from the U.S., according to officials.

Authorities said 27-year-old Marlon Carlos Rivas-Mendez was taken into custody at the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center without incident at about 11 a.m. on Monday after being arrested for public drunkenness.

While being transported to Fairfax, Rivas-Mendez complained his handcuffs were too tight, according to ICE.

After the transport officer loosened the handcuffs, officials said Rivas-Mendez attacked the officer and escaped.

He fled on foot between the exits of Loudoun County Parkway and Old Ox Road at about 12:20 p.m., authorities stated.

Officers with several local agencies helped canvass the area and Rivas-Mendez was taken back into custody at about 2:20 p.m. in the area of Mercure Circle and Old Ox Road.

Rivas-Mendez now also faces charges of assault and battery, according to officials.
