DC region battles potholes as winter takes its toll

WASHINGTON (FOX 5 DC) - The D.C. region is thawing out this week after a handful of winter snowfalls and weeks of bitter cold temperatures. But the spring-like warmth is bad news for drivers who will have to endure what is commonly known around the area as "pothole season."

If you've driven around the DMV recently you've probably had to dodge your fair share of potholes and the road crews trying to fix them. Washington, D.C. and most of the surrounding counties have plans in place to address pothole issues quickly.

FOX 5 spoke with D.C. Department of Transportation Director, Jeff Marootian, who said the District has approximately 10 crews addressing pothole issues. Marootian said if the District receives a call for a pothole that is not in their jurisdiction it will be referred to the neighboring jurisdiction.
