The District nearly topped the list of the worst cities in the U.S. for bed bugs.

The list released by pest-control service Orkin ranked Washington D.C. as the second worst bed bug city. Baltimore took the top honor while Chicago, Los Angeles and Columbus, Ohio rounded out the top five.

Orkin said the list was based on data from where it performed the most bed bug treatments from Dec. 1, 2016 to Nov. 30, 2017.

Other regional areas that made the list include Richmond-St. Petersburg, Virginia at No. 16, Norfolk-Portsmouth-Newport News, Virginia at No. 18 and Charleston-Huntington, West Virginia at No. 31.

Orkin said bed bugs are about the size of an apple seed and are typically a reddish-brown color. They are capable of rapid population growth with Orkin stating an adult female lays between two to five eggs per day.
