DC elementary school principal placed on administrative leave

Over a week after the beginning of a new school year, a D.C. Public Schools principal has been placed on administrative leave.

The school district would not say why Atasha James, the principal at Leckie Elementary School in Southwest D.C., was placed on leave. But the Washington Teachers' Union contends that over the years that there have been a number of complaints from teachers about the administration's management, staff morale and contractual violations.

D.C. Public Schools said they do not comment on personnel matters, but issued a statement saying:

"We are proud of the progress at Leckie Education Campus. We will continue to support the staff and community at Leckie, and we look forward to more progress this year."
