Police are searching for at least one gunman following a daytime shooting in Southeast D.C.

According to witnesses, it happened Wednesday afternoon as a black car made a turn onto Trenton Place and stopped halfway up the street. Witnesses say the driver got out of vehicle and began arguing with another man. They both pulled out guns and gunfire erupted.

Bullets struck the windshield and the hood of the car as construction workers across the street saw it all. They walked up to the street and encountered one of the men holding a gun. A construction project manager says the man held a gun to his head and told him to get out of the street before leaving the area.

The workers say they are so shaken up that they probably will not be back in the area on Thursday.
