Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect in DC, Maryland, and Virginia

Cold Weather Advisory

What we know:

A Cold Weather Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Wednesday for Washington, D.C., and portions of Maryland, and northern Virginia.

A blast of arctic air settles into the region, welcoming bitter cold wind chills between zero and five below zero degrees are expected.

The National Weather Service warns of potential hypothermia threats if the proper precautions are not taken. Due to the very cold temperatures and cold wind chills around zero to five below zero, appropriate clothing is recommended.

Residents are advised to use caution while traveling outside, wear appropriate clothing, hats, and gloves, and keep pets indoors as much as possible. Ensure outdoor animals have a warm, dry shelter, food, and unfrozen water. Make frequent checks on older family, friends, and neighbors. Ensure portable heaters are used correctly and do not use generators or grills inside.
