Car destroyed in fire after large tree falls, bringing down live power lines

CHEVY CHASE, Md. - A large tree fell down in a Chevy Chase neighborhood causing an unoccupied SUV to catch fire while bringing power outages to more than 20 homes.

The tree fell in the 8000 block of Glendale Road at around 5 p.m. and brought down live power lines onto the street. The wires also fell onto the vehicle, which ignited the blaze.

After Pepco cut off the power, firefighters were able to extinguish the car fire.

Fire officials said there were no injuries. However, the SUV is a total loss.
