WASHINGTON - A boy was shot near IDEA Public Charter School in the District on Tuesday, according to officials.
DC police said the juvenile male, only identified as a student at the school, was shot in the 1000 block of 45th Street, NE at about 3:45 p.m. The IDEA Public Charter School said one of its students was involved in a "serious incident" across the street from the school following dismissal on Tuesday.
Authorities said the student was rushed to the hospital and was unconscious, but breathing. The student appeared to suffer non-life threatening injuries, according to police.
"All other students present for afterschool activities are safe and awaiting parent pickup inside the school, as there is an active police presence on 45th Street. The student is receiving medical attention. Please keep our community in your thoughts and prayers. We will update you as we receive updates from the family and MPD," IDEA Public Charter School said in part of a written statement.
