Bones found in suitcase near Ocean City inlet were animal remains, not human remains

Officials have determined that a suitcase containing bones pulled from the water near Ocean City contained animal bones, not human remains.

Authorities said a couple was wading in the water off of Homer Gudelsky Park in West Ocean City when they found the container Tuesday morning.

Investigators said personal items inside of the suitcase appeared to be burned.

On Thursday, the Worcester County Sheriff's Office said the Office of the Maryland Chief Medical Examiner determined the bones were that of an animal.
