Baby sitter charged after girl, 3, drowns in pool

AQUIA HARBOUR, Va. (AP) -- A baby sitter has been charged after a 3-year-old girl drowned under her care last month.

The Stafford County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that 45-year-old Chelie L. Casswell has been indicted on one count of involuntary manslaughter and one count of cruelty and injury to a child following the drowning death of a 3-year-old girl in her care.

Authorities say Casswell was caring for the girl and a 2-year-old boy at their father's home in Aquia Harbour on Aug. 13 when a neighbor told her the 2-year-old boy was wandering in the street. Casswell went over the home to retrieve the boy but discovered the girl unresponsive in the pool when she got back.

The girl was pronounced dead at a hospital.
