Armed person in vehicle arrested near White House
WASHINGTON - Authorities arrested a person they say was carrying a loaded firearm while inside of a vehicle near the White House early Tuesday morning prompting temporary road closures.
Secret Service officers were alerted to the situation near H Street and Madison Place, near the northeast corner of Lafayette Square, at around 2:30 a.m.
The operator of the vehicle was arrested and faces several charges including carrying a pistol without a license, possession of an unregistered firearm, and possession of unregistered ammunition.
Officers searched the vehicle and deemed it safe. All traffic has since reopened and no injuries were reported.
