Armed carjacker causes multiple accidents along Baltimore-Washington Parkway, police say

The Baltimore-Washington Parkway was shut down in Laurel for several hours Tuesday morning after a multi-car accident was caused by a carjacker police say was wanted in an armed robbery.

Officers say the incident happened just after midnight along the southbound lanes of the Baltimore-Washington Parkway near Route 197.

Police say an armed man was racing down the highway and collided with as many as seven vehicles before coming to a stop. When the carjacker's vehicle became disabled, the man fired shots and took control of a second car.

Minor injuries have been reported, however, occupants of the vehicle that was carjacked were not hurt, police say.

The suspect vehicle was located a short time later in northeast D.C. without the driver. Police have not located or identified the man suspected in the incident and cannot say if the if other suspects in the diner robbery where in the vehicle at the time of the crash.
