Anti-immigrant fliers posted in DC neighborhoods

D.C Councilmember Brandon Todd sent a letter to residents in Ward 4 Friday after anti-immigrant fliers were posted in parts of the area.

In the letter, Councilmember Todd says someone placed "xenophobic and hostile flyers" in the area, and D.C. police are investigating. In an email, a spokesperson for Todd says the area where the fliers were placed includes the Takoma neighborhood.

Three of the fliers were shared with FOX 5. One of them bares a drawing of what appears to be Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and reads "Even RGB Backs The Ban - Build The Wall."

Another flier shows a photo of a Portland man who is accused of sexually assaulting a 65-year-old woman after having been deported 20 times. "Prevent this from happening again - report illegal aliens to DHS or ICE" it reads.

A third flier contains a photo of Kate Steinle, a San Francisco woman who was shot and killed by an illegal immigrant in 2015. That flier reads, "This is why you got Trump."

"I want you to know that this is not something we will tolerate in Ward 4 or the District of Columbia," Todd writes. "All residents, regardless of race, color, creed, religious affiliation or sexual preference, deserve to feel safe and respected in their community."

Anyone with information about these flier or who might have placed them is asked to call the Metropolitan Police Department.

Dear Neighbor,

This week we have experienced the darker side of the events happening around our country as someone has been placing xenophobic and hostile flyers in our neighborhoods in Ward 4.

I have spoken to residents, driven around the Ward, and been in constant contact with the Metropolitan Police Department. The Commander and his team are aware of these flyers and are working with residents.

If you see anyone or suspect any activity, please immediately contact MPD at 911 to report the incident. My staff and I will remain in contact with the Commander.

I want you to know that this is not something we will tolerate in Ward 4 or the District of Columbia. All residents, regardless of race, color, creed, religious affiliation or sexual preference, deserve to feel safe and respected in their community.

Together we will stand united against hatred and injustice! #Ward4Proud

Sincerely,
Brandon T. Todd
Councilmember, Ward 4
