African American history museum offering 'Walk up Wednesdays'
WASHINGTON (AP) - While the National Museum of African American History and Culture has been incredibly popular, the museum has started a pilot program that allows individuals to enter without timed-entry passes on Wednesdays during the month.
On April 4, 11, 18, and 25, individuals who walk up without timed-entry passes may enter the museum on a first-come, first-serve basis.
The museum also provides a limited number of walk-up passes (one per person) beginning at 1 p.m. on weekdays, except for Wednesdays in April.
The museum's founding director, Lonnie G. Bunch III, said in a statement that the goal of the pilot program is to provide greater access for the public while maintaining the safety and security of visitors.
The museum will still require advance timed passes for groups of 10 or more.
Information about obtaining timed entry passes can be found online.
