87-year-old dies nearly 1 week after collision with pursued suspect

An 87-year-old woman has died nearly one week after a suspect who was allegedly fleeing police officers crashed into her vehicle on Pegg Road in St. Mary's County.

According to the Sheriff's Office, police located 20-year-old Machiavelli Tyzhae Savoy of Lexington Park around 12:44 p.m. in the area of Midway Drive.

They say Savoy was wanted on several weapons charges.

When they tried to take him into custody, however, Savoy allegedly sped off.

While police were chasing him, Savoy reportedly lost control of his vehicle and crashed into another vehicle driven by Carol Jean Anderson of Leonardtown.

Anderson was taken to St. Mary's Hospital, and she died on March 9.

Investigators say they recovered a handgun and additional evidence from Savoy's vehicle. Savoy was also taken to the hospital following the crash.

The St. Mary's County Sheriff's Office says it is working with the State's Attorney regarding any additional charges Savoy might face.
