5-year-old hospitalized in DC after St. Mary's Co dog attack

A 5-year-old was taken to a D.C. hospital after being attacked by two dogs in a Lexington Park home, according to Maryland State Police.

State Police say they began investigating after being called to the home in the 48000 block of Leeward Circle around 7 p.m. on Friday.

According to Troopers, a family dog attacked the child, and then a second dove in too before family members could pry the child free.

They say the child's injuries are not life threatening.

The victim was flown to Children's Hospital in D.C. via Maryland State Police helicopter.

Animal control also responded to the scene, taking control of the dogs.

Police are still investigating the incident.

Police initially referred to the dogs as pit bulls - the following day they provided a correction indicating that one dog was a shar pei mix and the other was a rottweiler.
