3 firefighters struck on 14th Street Bridge in D.C., officials say

Three D.C. firefighters have been injured after they were struck on the 14th Street Bridge Friday evening, according to DC Police.

Police say the firefighters were in the process of assisting a motorist after a hit-and-run when they were struck on the inbound side of the bridge at around 4:28 p.m.

One firefighter was seriously injured after they were struck, police say. The two others suffered minor injuries.

A fourth person suffered a medical emergency in the interim at the scene, according to police. They were transported to the hospital.

Police say the vehicle that struck the firefighters stayed at the scene. The driver involved in the hit-and-run fled the area.

All northbound HOV lanes are currently blocked.
