2 men attempt to abduct woman near Lubber Run Park in Arlington

Arlington County police say two men attempted to abduct a woman near the Lubber Run Park and Amphitheater Tuesday night.

The incident happened at around 8:30 p.m. in the 200 block of N. Columbus Street.

According to police, the two suspects approached a women in her 50s from behind as she was out for her evening walk. As they did, one of them attempted to place an unknown object over her head while the other man inappropriately touched her.

"They also grabbed her and tried to muffle her screams by putting their hands over her mouth," said Asley Savage of the Arlington County Police Department.

The victim was able to get free from the suspects and fled the scene on foot.

Both of the suspects are described as Hispanic males, approximately 5'7" tall and weighing 130 pounds.

One suspect was wearing a dark-colored shirt and white and black checkered shorts. The other was seen wearing dark-colored pants and a dark-colored shirt, police say.

"What their ultimate goal was -- if it was robbery, if it was to scare her, if it was sexual nature -- all of that, we don't really know," said Savage.

Officers spent Wednesday evening canvassing Lubber Run Park and spoke with concerned residents about the incident.
