Two people have died after being pulled from the Potomac River near the Key Bridge late Sunday evening, according to police.

D.C. officials said two people, identified as Danny Garcia and Calvin Cerpas, both 30 years old and of Manassas, Virginia, went into the water and didn't resurface.

Garcia and Cerpas were pulled from the water by emergency crews. Officials said one of the victims was rushed to the hospital in critical condition while the other was deceased when crews located him.

The second victim later died at the hospital, according to officials.

No further details have been released on how the men ended up in the water.

D.C. police said they rope off the area at the aqueduct every night to keep people away from the dangerous ledge, but people continue to trespass.

The area is owned by the Department of the Interior. It is unclear if there are plans for a larger structure to keep people out.
