19-year-old Va. woman heading to airport goes missing

Authorities in Virginia say a 19-year-old woman has gone missing after she was dropped off by her family at a Metro station as she was attempting to catch a flight at Reagan National Airport.

The Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office says Katelin Akens was last seen Saturday by her stepfather after he took her to the Franconia-Springfield Metro station. However, her family says she never reached her destination and has not been heard from since.

Akens' luggage was later found on Monday in a drainage ditch on River Road near the Fredericksburg city limit in Spotsylvania County.

"The circumstances surrounding this case are suspicious enough to warrant our full investigative efforts, in attempting to locate Miss Akens," said Sheriff Roger L. Harris.

Anyone with information about Akens is asked to contact the Spotsylvania County Sheriff's Office or Crime Solvers at 1-800-928-5822, 1-540-582-5822 or at www.spotsylvaniacrimesolvers.org.
