16-year-old high school student struck, killed on bicycle in Gaithersburg
GAITHERSBURG, Md. - A high school student is dead after he was struck and killed by a vehicle while riding his bicycle in Montgomery County.
The accident happened in Gaithersburg at around 2:30 p.m. Thursday near the intersection of Frederick Avenue and Fulks Corner Avenue.
Police say the bicyclist, identified as 16-year-old Gaithersburg High School student Santos Escobar-Villatoro, was riding his bike on the sidewalk when he struck a commercial sign. The collision caused him to ride into the roadway where he was stuck by a vehicle.
Villatoro died from his injuries shortly following the accident.
Police are continuing their investigation at this time.
