1 man dead after double shooting in southeast DC

WASHINGTON (AP) -- D.C. police are investigating a double shooting in southeast Washington that left one man dead.

Police say two men were shot shortly before 5 a.m. Sunday in a residential community near the Maryland border, about two blocks away from the police department's Seventh District headquarters. When officers arrived, they found two men suffering from gunshot wounds about a block away from each other. One man was taken to a hospital. The other showed no signs of life and was taken to the Chief Medical Examiner's office, where he was pronounced dead.

The man who died has been identified as 32-year-old David Simmons of southeast Washington.

Police haven't released any information about suspects or a possible motive.
