KENSINGTON, Md. (AP) -- Maryland State Police say the driver of a tractor trailer has died after a crash on the Capital Beltway that is snarling the morning commute.

State police said in a press release that a westbound tractor trailer crashed into the concrete barrier between the inner and outer loops near Connecticut Avenue early Friday, splitting the barrier and spilling debris and fuel onto the road.

Police say the driver, 47-year-old Dennis Frampton of Halethorpe, was ejected and taken to Suburban Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

State Highway Administration spokeswoman Kellie Boulware says the beltway was closed in both directions for more than two hours.
